SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Suffolk women's golf's freshman Krisna Mahendran was named the first Northeast Women's Golf Conference's (NWGC) Rookie of the Week for the 2024-25 season after her collegiate debut at the Westfield State Open Sept. 7.
Mahendran, who hails from Katy, Texas, shot an 80, good for third among the individuals who completed 18 holes at Shaker Farms Country Club before the event was rained out.
Mahendran is the second-ever Suffolk student-athlete to garner NWGC Rookie of the Week Honors. She is the first Ram to be tabbed the league's best rookie over a seven-day stretch since Brooke Bugajewski took home the honor Oct. 10, 2023. It is the first week honor for a Ram since Bugajewski and Ellie Yarbrough swept the conference's weekly accolades Oct. 10, 2023.
Mahendran and the Rams return to action this weekend, Sept. 14-15, at the Polar Bear Shootout at Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine.
