Ten Rams Garner At-Large CSC Academic All-District

BOSTON – Suffolk Athletics saw 10 student-athletes pick up College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors in the at-large category, the national organization announced. 

Women's hockey led the way with four honorees – Shana CoteCassidy GruningLily O'Neil, and Sofia Scilipoti. Men's hockey saw three players recognized, Phil DecrescePJ Donahue and Alex Kolowrat, while men's golf had a pair, Vijay Sakuru and Cameron Sinopoli with Isabel Smith representing the Rams' women's golf team.  

Awarded by CSC, formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), to the most accomplished student-athletes for combined academic and athletic achievements each year since 1952, this is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes to receive.  

The 2023 Academic All-District At-Large Teams, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom in a variety of sports including women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling. All nominees must have a GPA of at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), be a starter or important reserve, and have competed in at least 50 percent of a team's competition. Each institution was allowed to nominate 10 individuals – five male and five female.  

It is the first time in Suffolk University history that men's and women's golf and men's and women's hockey had student-athletes collect Academic All-District honors from the national organization. 

Suffolk was one of seven members of the Commonwealth Coast Conference to be featured were among the NCAA Division III institutions to receive the feat. The Rams were one of three CCC institutions to have the maximum (10) of student-athletes recognized along with Curry and Nichols. Gordon (6), Roger Williams (5), University of New England (4) and Endicott (3) were featured on both lists as well.  

Suffolk now has 64 academic all-district accolades in its history from CSC dating back to 2004, 53 of which have come in the last seven seasons including 40 in 2022-23 alone.
