SARATOGA, N.Y. – For the second straight season, the Suffolk women's golf team finished as runner-up at the Empire 8 Championships hosted by Saint John Fisher over the weekend at Ballston Spa Country Club.
SUNY Cortland continued its league prominence with the Red Dragons posting a two-day total of 667 to win the conference crown for the second consecutive campaign in convincing fashion.
Suffolk maintained its second-place day one showing with a 366 and shot a 365 on the second day on the course to finish 31 strokes ahead of third-place finisher Johnson & Wales.
Junior Aine Dillon and sophomore Brooke Chapman led the way for the Rams. Dillon improved on her day one outing of 91 with an 82 on the second day to take fifth overall, good enough for a spot on the All-Empire 8 first team, the first Ram to earn all-league accolades for women's golf. Chapman, meanwhile, garnered all-conference second-team status with a collective card of 175 that put her in seventh.
Nicole Antonucci landed just outside the top ten with a share of 11th with a 179.
McKenzie McGrath took home 30th to round out the Rams in the competition.
Suffolk will prep for the defense of its 2017 NEIGA Championship title with a one-day outing against Johnson & Wales Saturday, Oct. 13.
