Women’s Golf Heads to the 42nd Mt. Holyoke Invitational this Weekend


BOSTON – The Suffolk women's golf team heads back out on the competition this circuit for its second invitational in as many weeks as the Rams head The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts, for the 42nd Mt. Holyoke Invitational. Tee-time on Saturday, Sept. 22 is set for 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start on the second day of competition, Sunday, Sept. 23.

LAST TIME OUT

In its third season opener, the Suffolk women's golf team combined to finish in the middle of the pack at the William & Smith Invitational over the weekend at the Clifton Springs Country Club.

THE COURSE
Crafted in 1922 from 160 acres of slopping wooded terrain by the legendary Donald Ross, the Orchards is a hidden gem of a course. The 72-par course has hosted multiple championships events including the 1987 US Women's Junior Championship, the Massachusetts State Men's Amateur Championship, 2002 NCAA Women's Division III Finals, the 2004 US Women's Open and the 2010 Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship.

THE COMPETITION
A 15-team field will vie for the Mt. Holyoke Invitational title. Joining the Rams on the green at The Orchards Golf Club are fellow Empire 8 members Johnson & Wales, Rhode Island College and Westfield State. Amherst, Bowdoin, Drew, Hamilton, Ithaca, Manhattanville, Middlebury, NYU, Trinity, Wellesley and Williams will also compete in the shot-gun style tournament along with the hosts, Mt. Holyoke.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Next weekend, Suffolk returns to the Empire State where it will tee off at the Martin and Wallace Invitational at the Cortland Country Club in Courtland, New York.
