
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – In its first ever championship and in just the second-year as a varsity program, Suffolk women's golf put together a runner-up showing at the Empire8 Championship over the weekend at Ballston Spa Country Club hosted by Saint John Fisher.
SUNY Cortland cruised to the title with the Red Dragons took a 37 stroke into the second day of action and maintain the distance to finish with a 682 overall.
Suffolk sat in second after day one with a 381 and shot a 384 on the second day on the course to finish nine strokes ahead of third-place finisher and tournament host St. John Fisher.
Individually, Brooke Chapman led the way for the Rams. The freshman carded a 92 on day one and a 93 on the second day of action to finish with a 185, good for 11th. Iselle Venture placed 19th thanks to a collective card of 190. Aine Dillon, meanwhile, took 193 to tie for 20th with Olivia Spiega taking home 25th with a score of 201.
Nicole Antonucci (27th, 202) and McKenzie McGrath (T45th, 224) also took the championship course of the weekend for the blue-and-gold.
Suffolk will close out the 2017 portion of its schedule next weekend at the NEIGA Championships at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
