Women’s Basketball Runs by Wentworth, 65-44

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball returned to the win column in convincing fashion as it ran by Wentworth, 65-44 Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) play at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.  

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored the first eight points of the contest thanks to buckets from Tatiana TuneAllison Bono and Amanda DeAngelis and two free throws by Maddie Stewart.  

The Leopards leapt back into the thick of things with a 7-2 run to trim the host lead to three, 10-7, with 3:20 left on the clock in the first frame.  

Back-and-forth action closed the first quarter with Suffolk in front, 16-10.  

See-saw action flowed into the second stanza and kept a two-point gap, 20-18, at the midway point. 

The Rams took charge from there as they outscored WIT, 17-4, to go into halftime up 37-22. Jordan Moreau had six points in that rally that saw DeAngelis and Bono supply four points each. 

Action was close in the third with Suffolk holding a slim 15-11 upper hand to take a 19-point, 52-33, advantage into the final frame.  

It was all blue-and-gold in the fourth as nearly every Ram that took the quarter contributed a hoop to help Suffolk seal the 65-44 victory. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Moreau contributed a team-high 15 points with five assists and three boards. 
  • DeAngelis put together a 10-point, 10-reboundd double-double with one block and one steal. 
  • Bono produced 10 points on a 4-for-7 showing from the floor with three caroms, one dime and one steal. 
  • Ava Thurman recorded 10 points on a 4-for-5 performance from the field to go along with six rebounds, two dimes and two takeaways off the bench.
  • Stewart supplied an all-around effort of seven points, five rebounds, four assists and one block.  Key. 
  • Almost half of Suffolk's points came in the paint with 32 points in the key.
  • The Rams converted WIT's 22 turnovers into 23 points. 
  • Suffolk scored 10 points in transition.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk won its 14th game in a row versus the Leopards to move to 32-9 all-time against Wentworth. 
  • At home, Suffolk is 14-2 versus WIT. 
  • DeAngelis had her seventh double-double of the year, 42nd of her collegiate career.
  • Thurman had a career day with personal-best numbers in points (10), field goals made (4), 3-point field goals made (1), rebounds (6) and matched a career-high in assists (2) and steals (2).
