Women’s Basketball’s Comeback Falls Short Against Endicott, 75-68

BOSTON – Down by as many as 21 in the third quarter, Suffolk women's basketball pulled back within a pair of possessions, but Endicott held off the Rams Conference of New England (CNE) comeback, 75-68, Saturday afternoon at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk put the first five points on the board on the afternoon before the sharp shooting of Endicott's Cora Nadeau gave the visitors a 6-5 edge. The lead would land back in Suffolk's favor when Maddie Stewart knocked down a triple of her own on the Rams' next possession.  

Suffolk remained in front, 15-12, with 2:51 left in the first quarter before Endicott took over with a quarter-ending 8-0 run to put the blue-and-gold in a 20-15 hole. 

The Gulls flew out a to a 15-point advantage as they outscored the Rams, 15-5, in the first 4:29 of the second stanza. Amanda DeAngelis took over for Suffolk as the fifth-year forward scored six unanswered herself to trim the margin to nine, 35-26, with 2:36 to go before the intermission.  

Back-and-forth buckets closed out the first half to. Make it a 38-28 margin in the Gulls' favor at the half.  

The game of runs carried into the third quarter. Endicott handled things first with 11 unanswered points to stretch its lead to 21, 51-30, at the 4:55 mark. 

The Rams responded with a 15-2 run to cut the distance down to eight, 53-45, to set up an entertain fourth quarter.  

Suffolk managed to trim the gap down to six multiple times with the last coming with 6:13 to go, 59-53.  

Buckets from behind-the-arc came into play as Allison BonoColby Guinta and Aisling Crowley all connected from downtown. Unfortunately for every longball the Rams made the Gulls answered with points of their own to seal Suffolk's setback fate.   

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • DeAngelis finished with a game-high 21 points on a 7-for-14 showing from the floor and an unblemished 6-for-6 effort at the charity stripe. She was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine caroms to her credit. 
  • Guinta registered 13 points, four boards and one helper. 
  • Crowley contributed 11 points on a 3-for-4 effort from the field and 4-for-4 performance at the line. The senior also supplied four rebounds and two steals.
  • Jordan Moreau chipped in seven points, three rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal. 
  • Bono prodcued nine points, five helpers and three rebounds. SHe shot 4-for-8 on the afternoon including a 1-for-2 showing from behind-the-arc. 
  • Suffolk shot 40.7 percent (24-59) as a team, 46.7 percent (7-15) from 3-point land and 92.9 percent (13-14) from the foul line. 
  • The Rams held slim 37-36 edge on the glass. 
  • Both teams converted 28 points in the paint. 
  • Suffolk scored 17 points on the fast break.

Suffolk travels to Western New England Tuesday, Feb. 11 for a 5:30 p.m. CNE title.
