
BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk women's basketball saw its double digit halftime lead vanquish is a sluggish offensive output in the second half allowed Roger Williams to come back and take down the Rams, 67-62, in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday afternoon at the Hawks' Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A see-saw opening was followed by an 8-3 Rams run that gave the blue-and-gold a 15-9 cushion 6:29 into the action. The Hawks flew back behind a 5-2 spurt of their own before Suffolk sealed the opening 10 minutes with a 12-2 stretch that built a 25-16 advantage.
The second stanza was back-and-forth as the foes traded buckets, which allowed the Rams to remain in front at halftime, 43-33.
Suffolk's offense struggled out of the locker room and RWU capitalized. The Hawks outscored the Rams 10-1 to make it a one-point game, 44-43. Allison Bono ended the 3:40 scoring draught with a layup to keep the lead for the blue-and-gold.
The playing field went on to level three times from there. Suffolk never relinquished the advantage though, and a one-possession game remained with 30 minutes in the books, 58-55.
Aisling Crowley banked in a lay-up to get the fourth frame underway. The Hawks responded with five unanswered to even matters at 60-all, which forced Ed Leyden to use a timeout at the 5:22 mark.
Momentum stayed in RWU's favor out of the huddle and they built its largest cushion of the night, 64-60, with 3:59 to go in regulation.
Suffolk's scoring did not pick back up until the final 40 seconds when Akiyah Brown put away a lay-up to slice the gap down to three, 65-62.
From there the Rams gambled with the foul game and sent the Hawks to the free throw line to clinch the victory. Up to this point, Roger Williams was spotty at the charity stripe. Lilli Clark did not let pressure get to her, however, as she sunk the pair of freebies to put the game out of the blue-and-gold's reach.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Bono paced Suffolk's scoring with 11 points on a 4-for-8 showing from the floor. Her stat line featured six caroms, five steals and three helpers as well.
- Maddie Stewart joined Bono in double figures with 10 points to go along with five caroms.
- Colby Guinta was on the verge of double digits in points with nine. The junior added four boards, two dimes and one takeaway.
- Crowley contributed eight rebounds, four points, one assist and one block off the bench.
- Olivia Verdile notched eight points, two boards, one handout and one steal in a reserve effort.
- Suffolk shot 40.0 percent (22-55) on the afternoon and stayed in the game thanks to its 87.5 percent (14-16) showing from the free throw line.
- The Rams held a hefty advantage on the glass, 42-27.
NOTEWORTHY
- Bono matched a personal-best five steals.
