Moreau Selected to NEWBA Weekly First Team

NEWBA RELEASE

NORTH HAMPTON, Mass. – Jordan Moreau of the Suffolk women's basketball team was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) First Team of the Week, the regional organization announced last Tuesday evening.

The laurels come on the heels of a 3-1 start for Suffolk in which Moreau has averaged 11.3 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game.

In the season opener, a 68-48 win over New England College at the Terriers Tip-Off Tournament, the guard poured in eight points and to go along with six caroms, one helper and one takeaway.

A day later, the sophomore contributed nine points, three boards, one dime, one swat and one steal to the 54-47 triumph over Saint Joseph's (Maine). The victory that concluded action at the season-opening tourney, secured the Rams second straight win over the Monks, the first time the blue-and-gold won back-to-back games over SJC since 2013.

Moreau continued to factor into Suffolk's early success as she supplied 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one block to the 77-74 overtime win at Salem State.

The North Kingstown, Rhode Island, was a main ingredient to the Rams comeback effort in their Beantown battle at Emerson last Sunday, Nov. 17. Despite her 17-point, six-board, two-steal, one-assist and one-block performance, Suffolk fell short and suffered its first setback of the season, a 53-48 loss at Emerson.

The weekly distinction from the NEWBA is the second of Moreau's career as she was named NEWBA Rookie of the Week Nov. 28, 2023. The sophomore is the first Suffolk player recognized with a weekly nod from the regional organization since Amanda DeAngelis secured a spot on the weekly second team Feb. 14, 2024.

Moreau is one of three Conference of New England (CNE) players to be recognized on week one of the 2024-25 season by the NEWBA. Faye Veilleux of the University of New England joined Moreau on the weekly first-team, while Western New England's Lilly Hedge picked up a spot on the second team.

Moreau and Suffolk are back in action tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 20 when they open their home slate against Wheaton at 7:00 p.m. at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court
