BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk women's basketball has been projected to finish fifth in the 10-team Conference of New England (CNE), per the league's preseason coaches' poll released Tuesday morning.
Entering the 31st season in the Ed Leyden era, the Rams received 59 points to take the fifth spot ahead of Hartford (57), Nichols (37), Gordon (29), Curry (24) and Wentworth (12).
Suffolk has been one to prove preseason projections wrong making the league's postseason in 28 consecutive campaigns, including a semifinal run a year ago.
The prediction is the highest for the blue-and-gold since it was selected fourth in 2021 and comes on the heels of a 20-7 overall season and 12-4 league ledger.
Western New England, the defending conference champion, received six of the 10 first-place picks to finish atop the poll with 93 points. Roger Williams was nine points behind the Golden Bears with 83 points behind three first-place votes. Endicott received the remaining first place prediction and was one point behind the Hawks in third. The University of New England completed the poll in fourth with 72 points.
The Rams will lean on returners Amanda DeAngelis (17.8 ppg, 11.8 rpg), Jordan Moreau (10.0 ppg) and Colby Guinta (9.3 ppg). DeAngelis is the reigning conference player of the year and has the chance to rewrite multiple Rams records this year.
Suffolk women's basketball takes its talent to Waterville, Maine next weekend to lift the lid on the 2024-25 campaign at the Terriers Tip-Off Classic. The Rams will face New England College Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m., before battling Saint Joseph's (Maine), Sunday, Nov. 10 at 12:00 p.m.
