DeAngelis Eclipses 1,000 Points; Women’s Basketball Downs Endicott in OT, 82-76

BEVERLY, Mass. – Amanda DeAngelis played one of her most impressive games in a Rams uniform to date to power Suffolk women's basketball to an 82-76 overtime Commonwealth Coast Conference win over Endicott Saturday afternoon. DeAngelis highlight performance featured her 1,000th career point in a blue-and-gold jersey behind a career-high 32-point offensive output.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 82 | Endicott 76
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-5, 8-3 CCC) | Endicott (10-8, 6-5 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored the first six points of the afternoon, four from Colby Guinta and a pair by DeAngelis to jump in front early. The Rams second 6-0 run of the day pushed the blue-and-gold's lead to nine, 15-6, with 4:38 to go in the quarter.

Endicott used eight straight points of its own to end the opening frame, however, and close the gap to one, 15-14 at the end of the first 10 minutes.

The Gulls got their first edge of the day on their second possession of the second quarter when Cora Nadeua knocked down a trifecta. The score would tie twice before Madi Mahoney converted a Lauren Romito steal into a layup with a set-up by Jordan Moreau

Mahoney's hoop sparked a 13-2 Suffolk scoring frenzy to send the Rams ahead by 11, 32-21. In that span, DeAngelis cemented her spot in the Rams' 1,000-point club when she buried her 15th point on the afternoon, a front end of a two-shot trip the charity stripe.

Over the final four minutes before halftime the Gulls got the distance down to three, 37-34. Mahoney went 1-for-2 at the free throw line with just under 30 seconds left on the clock to send Suffolk into the break with a four-point, 38-34, cushion.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair with four tied scores and a three of lead changes. Once the Gulls went ahead, 49-48, the host outscored the Rams, 10-4 over the final 3:48 minutes to put Suffolk in a seven-point, 59-52, hole as the game headed to the fourth quarter.

The Rams rallied behind a 9-4 spurt to pull within two, 63-61. Sarah Dempsey hit a jumper to restore a four-point margin before Suffolk's 1,000 point scores DeAngelis and Romito took over. The upperclassmen scored eight in a row to send the blue-and-gold in front, 69-65, with 3:07 to go in regulation.
Back-to-back Endicott hoops evened the score at 69 with 1:17 on the clock. Both sides had opportunities to grab the lead, but it wasn't until a put back by DeAngelis with six seconds to go that Suffolk snuck in front. The thriller would not stop there as Dempsey connected on a jumper as time expire to even things at 71 and force overtime.

Suffolk put away the first four points of overtime to grab a 75-71 edge. Endicott would not down without a fight and chipped the deficit down to one. Two consecutive hoops from DeAngelis made it a five-point gap with 2:25 left.
Dempsey answered for the Gulls and a one-possession game was present with just under two minutes to go. Both sides went scoreless over the next 1:33, however, and Suffolk used free throw shooting to put the win way.
