BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball started its second semester in the win column as the Rams held off a Wentworth comeback to take a 55-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) decision over the Leopards Tuesday night at Tansey Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
From a 5-5 game less than 2 minutes into the action, Suffolk surged ahead with six unanswered points to grab an 11-5 lead at the 6:07 mark.  

The Rams continued to power past the Leopards over the rest of the opening quarter to hold onto a 21-12 advantage after the first 10 minutes. 

Wentworth made things interesting as it doubled the blue-and-gold's offensive output in the second stanza, 14-7, to Send Suffolk into the locker room with a 28-26 edge.  

The teams traded hoops to get the third frame going. Katie Kirsch's layup sparked an 11-3 Rams run that pushed the visitors in front by double figures, 42-32, with 3:10 remaining in the third. 

Once again, the Leopards leaped back into the thick of thing and Suffolk's 10-point cushion was cut in half, 45-40, as the game headed to the fourth quarter.  

WIT chipped the gap down to two points with 8:38 left in regulation and got it down to one point, 49-48, at the midway point. 

Maddie Stewart sunk a pair of crucial freebies and Kirsch converted a clutch layup to restore a multi-possession margin, 43-38, with 2:45 to go. 

Maddy Foster sunk a layup for the Leopards nine seconds later to keep things interesting.  

Neither team scored over the next two minutes, which kept Suffolk in front. Colby Guinta sealed the 55-50 win when she poured in a set of free throws in with 4 seconds on the clock.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Amanda DeAngelis led Suffolk on both ends of the hardwood with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double to go along with three assists and one takeaway. She shot 6-for-17 from the field and went 6-for-7 at the charity stripe. 
• Kirsch finished with 15 points on a 7-for-9 showing from the floor. Her stat line featured nine caroms, three takeaways and two helpers. 
• Stewart supplied 13 points, nine boards, two dimes and one swat. The sophomore shot 5-for-10 on the night. 
• As a team, Suffolk shot just 35.6 percent (21-59) from the floor and 10.0 percent (1-10) from 3-point land with Stewart responsible for the Rams' lone triple. 
• At the line, the Rams converted 66.7 percent (12-18) of three free throw shots.
• Wentworth, who used just six players, saw half of its team produce double digits in scoring in Gabby Amoddio (13), Brianna Carroll (11) and Nattaly David (10). 
• Both teams grabbed 42 rebounds. 
• Suffolk scored 34 points in the paint compared to WIT's 24 points inside the key. 
• The Rams poured in 13 points in transition.   

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk defeated Wentworth for the ninth consecutive contest to move to 27-8 all-time versus the Leopards. 
• On the road, the Rams are 15-6 against WIT. 
• DeAngelis put together her second straight double-double, ninth of her collegiate career, five of which came this season. 
• Kirsch recorded a personal-best 15 points behind a career-high seven field goals made. The graduated student matched a career-high in steals (3) as well.
