WORCESTER, Mass. – In its fall semester finale, Suffolk women's basketball came out on the wrong side of a 66-58 decision at Clark Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 58 | Clark 66
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-4) | Clark (5-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first five minutes of the game saw a back-and-forth affair with the Cougars clinging to the edge, 9-8. That gap grew to 16-8 as the host poured in seven unanswered over the next three minutes. Suffolk surged back into the thick of it with seven straight points of its own to make it a one point, 16-15, at the end of the first.
After trading hoops to start the second, Clark charged forward to a 31-19 advantage. The Rams ended their nearly eight-minute scoring draught with just under two minutes left before halftime. Over the final 1:41, Suffolk scored seven in a row to pull back within two possession at the intermission, 31-26.
Out of the locker room, Suffolk commanded the action to flip the script back in its favor, 36-31. Clark, clawed its way back and regained the lead, 38-37, with 2:13 on the clock in the third. The playing field would tie twice and the lead switched once over the remainder of the quarter that ended with the Cougars in front, 43-42.
See-saw action ensued to get the fourth frame going. Freebies paid off for the Cougars to push the host ahead, 53-49, with 6:10 to go in regulation.
A Suffolk timeout helped, but not enough, as the teams traded hoops the rest of the way, which allowed Clark to lock up the 66-58 win.
