Records Fall as Women’s Basketball Beats Curry

BOSTON – Jenni-Rose DiCecco sealed her spot as the all-time leader in a pair of categories to help Suffolk women's basketball sail past Curry, 71-41, Friday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 71 | Curry 42
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-1) | Curry (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk limited Curry to eight points in both the first and second quarters, respectively, to take a 34-16 cushion into halftime.

The opening stanza saw the Colonels put the first bucket away before Suffolk strung together a 13-2 stretch to make it a nine-point, 13-4, distance. It was a see-saw affair over the final four minutes for the 15-8 score at the end of the first frame.

To start the second, the Rams scored nine straight, which helped the blue-and-gold build the 18-point advantage at intermission. During that Suffolk scoring frenzy DiCecco sealed her spot as the all-time leader in steals in program history. That takeaway was converted into two points.

DiCecco started the second half two assists shy of the record and wasted little time to seal the deal. The floor general tied the mark on a Rachel LaSaracina hoop two minutes into the third quarter before taking her rightful spot atop the all-time assists list on a fast-break lay-up by Gabriella DeComo

Suffolk kept its foot on the gas pedal and continued to limit Curry's chances. The Rams held the Colonels to just eight points, again, to take a 52-24 lead into the finale set of 10 minutes.

Curry made moves in the fourth frame, but thanks to Suffolk's early edge the Rams were able to pull the 71-42 win off.
