Senior Trio Tabbed Women’s Basketball Captains

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball's 38th season will be led by senior tri-captains Gabriella DeComo, Jenni-Rose DiCecco and Rachel LaSaracina, head coach Ed Leyden announced.

"It's great to have senior leadership especially in a pandemic," Leyden said. "I feel that each person puts the team first and leads by example."

DiCecco is in her second season at the post, after sharing the responsibilities with Alexis Hackett a year ago, while DeComo and LaSaracina are in their first years in the role.

The trio are crucial ingredients to Leyden's 12-player roster that features nine returners and three new faces.

DiCecco, who hails from Falmouth, Massachusetts, has been the backbone to Suffolk's scoring for the last three season and has the chance for a record-setting campaign as a senior, just 307 points shy of the Rams' all-time scoring record, and already appears in the top three in field goals made (447), three-pointers made (161), assists (363) and steals (206). The two-time all-region honoree became the 15th member of the blue-and-gold's 1,000-point club, and was one of the fastest players to hit the milestone, doing so in just 62 outings. The floor general's athletic accolades also include 2017-18 GNAC Rookie of the Year, a pair of All-GNAC First-Team and GNAC Tournament Team selections, respectively, and a NEWBA All-Rookie Team nod.

DeComo came into her own as a junior as the Portsmouth, Rhode Island, product averaged career highs in every category a year ago, including 10.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg and 0.8 spg. Throughout her three years on roster, the swing player has registered 536 points, 213 caroms, 70 handouts, 48 takeaways and 32 swats over 79 contests.

LaSaracina has played a critical reserve role for the Rams. The Colchester, Connecticut local has provide 127 points, 73 boards, 28 dimes and 16 assists in 60 games in her time in blue-and-gold.

Suffolk's 2020-21 season has been put on hold with the Commonwealth Coast Conference canceling conference competition, however, the Rams chance to compete a non-conference schedule is still an option.
