Women’s Basketball Falls at Western New England, 71-52

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England handed Suffolk women's basketball its first loss of 2019-20 as the Rams slipped to the Golden Bears, 71-52, Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 52 | Western New England 71
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-1) | Western New England (1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk grabbed a 7-2 edge in the first two minutes of action before seven straight points from the Golden Bears put the hosts ahead, 9-7.

After the teams traded points, Western New England outscored the Rams, 8-1 over the final 3:39 of the first frame to hold onto a 20-12 cushion at the end of the first 10 minutes.

The Golden Bears maintain a nine-point cushion, 26-15, four minutes into the second stanza. Skylar Rojik's first bucket in blue-and-gold jump started an 8-0 Suffolk spurt that made it a one-possession, 26-23, with 3:13 left before half time.

WNE used a timeout to slow down the Rams and it worked as Suffolk was able to score just two points the rest of the way compared to the Golden Bears 10 that made it a 36-25 game in the hosts favor at the half.

Out of the locker room, Western New England lengthened its advantage to 17, 42-25.  That cushion blossomed into a 53-39 at the end of the third quarter.

Suffolk's comeback never came as the Golden Bears kept the Rams at bay to walk away with the victory.
