Women’s Basketball Takes Fourth Seed in GNAC Tournament

Women’s Basketball Takes Fourth Seed in GNAC Tournament

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's basketball team will vie for GNAC glory for its 24th consecutive season and do so as the fourth seed, the league office announced.

Suffolk continues its constant presence in the conference postseason, with the Rams never missing a trip, all of which came under head coach Ed Leyden's guidance, since the inaugural GNAC campaign in 1995-96.

The fourth seed comes on the heels of an 18-7 regular season and a 9-3 record against conference competition. Suffolk enters the field gunning for its first GNAC title and does so as the fourth seed for the first time since 2015-16 and sixth time overall.

The blue-and-gold's first round foe Anna Maria heads to the tournament as the fifth seed with a 7-5 league ledger and 10-5 overall mark.

In the regular season a trio of players posted double digits to take down the AMCATs, 87-61. Jenni-Rose DiCecco's 26 points led the way with Marissa Gudauskas and Alexis Hackett providing 20 points 17 points, respectively. Hackett led on the defensive end with 11 rebounds.

Suffolk has dominated the all-time series with Anna Maria, which began in 2011-12. The Rams' victory Jan. 24 extended their all-time record versus the AMCATs to 8-0. The conference foes will meet for the first time in the conference postseason.

In its 23 tournament appearances, Suffolk has moved on to the semis on 10 occasions and competed in the championship five times, including last season's title bout.

Suffolk's quest for the conference crown tips off Tuesday, Feb. 19 when the AMCATs visit Regan Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. battle.
