DiCecco Tabbed NEWBA Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Jenni-Rose DiCecco of the Suffolk women's basketball team has been named the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week after the Rams' run in the GNAC Tournament, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

DiCecco earned her second NEWBA Rookie of the Week after guiding the Rams to the GNAC Championship game behind 20.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 4.0 apg. She shot 45.2 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from behind-the-arc and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.

The Falmouth, Massachusetts, native produced 23 points to go with six rebounds, four dimes and one steal in the Rams' 68-46 win over Johnson & Wales in the quarterfinals. Two days later, she registered 14 points, 11 of which came in the second half, to go along with four caroms, three assists and one steal in the surprising 73-68 win over Emmanuel, Suffolk's second-ever in program history and first-ever in the postseason. Despite her 24-point, five-board, five-assist, one-block outing in the championship, Suffolk fell in the title game at Saint Joseph's (Maine), 73-59, to wrap up its season. For her performance in the Rams' 23rd straight conference tournament, she was named to the all-tournament team.

The GNAC Rookie of the Year helped Suffolk to one of its most successful seasons in the program's 34-year history. She helped the Rams record 20-plus wins for the third time, tie the program's record for conference victories (12-4) and put together the longest wins streak (10) since 2001-02.

DiCecco has compiled a hefty resume already as the freshman floor general owns Suffolk's record for GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Weeks with eight honors, became the second-ever Ram to be tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Year and was named the best rookie over a seven day stretch by the NEWBA twice.
