Hipwell Honored as GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball's Jordan Hipwell earned GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week after a 10.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg performance in a 2-0 week for the Rams, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Hipwell helped Suffolk stretch its win streak to nine straight, the program's longest since stringing 12 triumphs together in the 2000-01 season, as the freshman forward average 10.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg.

To open the week's action, Hipwell helped Suffolk take down Anna Maria, 69-33, with an 11-rebound, seven-point performance in just 23 minutes of action. The Ballston Spa, New York, native followed that effort with a 14-point, seven-board effort in a 70-54 victory over Albertus Magnus.

The weekly accolade is the first of Hipwell's collegiate career, while the Rams racked up multiple weekly honors this season including five rookie of the week honors from the conference for classmate Jenni-Rose DiCecco, who also collected the best rookie over a seven day stretch from the NEWBA Dec. 4. Overall, Suffolk has collected 10 weekly awards this year including Georgia Bourikas' top honor of USBWA National Player of the Week Dec. 10

Hipwell and the Rams look to keep their win streak alive Thursday, Jan. 18 as they entertain Norwich in game one of a Suffolk basketball doubleheader. After the women tip-off at 5 p.m., the men's team takes on Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
