Santini Leads Women's Basketball To 73-63 Win Saturday

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team defeated the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays, 73-63 on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) led all scorers with 19 points on the afternoon to lead Suffolk to their fourth win in conference play on the year.

Senior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) added 12 points, while junior Alessandra Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with 11 on the day for Suffolk.

Three players recorded double-digit scoring efforts for the Blue Jays as senior Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) recorded a double-double on the day as she finished with team highs in points scoring 14 and collecting 12 rebounds.

Freshman Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) scored 12 points for the Blue Jays and added eight rebounds, while junior Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) added 10 points.

Suffolk would hold the lead for the majority of the first half as sophomore Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) connected on a three-pointer with five minutes remaining. After a layup to close out the half by Iliana Quadri, Suffolk would take a 36-28 lead heading into the break.

The Blue Jays would come out quick after the break going on an 11-2 run over three and a half minutes to regain the lead when DeJesus put in two of her nine points in the period to make it a 39-38 game.

Both teams would trade baskets over the following minutes until Suffolk put together an 11-2 run of their own midway through the half to regain the lead at eight points when a pair of free throws by Alessandra Quadri made it 57-49 with 8:49 remaining.

Three minutes later Quadri would put Suffolk up by their largest lead of the contest when her layup gave the Rams a 12-point lead with 5:22 remaining in regulation.

The Blue Jays would not go quietly as they scored eight straight points when a jumper by DeJesus made it a four-point game with less than two minutes remaining.

Suffolk would close out their victory from the free thrown line going 6-for-8 as a team in over the final twenty five seconds.

Freshman Caitlyn Caramello (Revere, Mass.) led all players with 13 rebounds as she helped Suffolk hold a 51-46 edge on the glass in the contest. Junior Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) also collected 10 rebounds in the victory.

Suffolk managed to force 22 Blue Jayss turnovers in the game which they cashed in for 26 points.

The loss drops Saint Joseph to a 7-11 record on the season and 2-2 mark in GNAC play. The Blue Jays will be back in action on Monday evening when they host Anna Maria College at 7:00pm.

Suffolk will travel to UMass Boston in non-league action on Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30pm.
