Women's Basketball Top Norwich 78-61

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team wrapped up the 2013-14 regular season with a 78-61 victory over Norwich University on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with a game-high 22 points for the Rams who conclude the regular season with a 16-9 overall record and 9-3 mark in GNAC play.
 

Three Cadets' played recorded double digits scoring totals on the afternoon highlighted by a 14-point effort from senior Erin Clark (Newbury, Vt.). Clark finished the day with a double-double as she also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the setback.  Juniors Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) each netted 13 points in the loss for Norwich who fall to 13-12 mark on the year and a 4-9 record in GNAC play.

Suffolk controlled the early minutes of the contest when senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) made a jumper at 6:45 to give the Rams a 30-25 edge. From there Norwich would score six straight points when senior Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.) connected on a three-pointer and a free-throw from sophomore Hannah Curler (North Ferrisburgh, Vt.) following her layup capped off their run.
 

Junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) would then put Suffolk back up at the 3:35 marker in the first half when she put away a traditional three-point play with a layup and free-throw to push the Rams back in front 33-31. From that put on the Rams would never trail throughout the remainder of the contest as they took a 35-33 lead into the break.

An 11-0 run by Suffolk midway through the second period would break the game open when freshman Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) made it a 51-40 game with her layup at the 12:48 mark. Suffolk would spread the game out to their largest lead of the game at 17 points when Ruys made it a 70-53 contest with 6:08 remaining.
 

Ruys would finish the day with her sixth double-double of the season scoring 16 points and collecting a team-high 12 rebounds.  Ruys was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the game.

Norwich held a 39-38 advantage in rebounds in the contest, while Suffolk held an 18-3 points off turnovers differential.
Both teams will now await the playoff pairings for the upcoming GNAC Playoff Tournament scheduled to start on Tuesday evening. Suffolk will host Tuesday's quarterfinal round as they will enter the eight-team single elimination tournament as the number four seed. Tuesday's game will start at 7:00pm in the Regan Gymnasium against an opponent to be determined.
