Women's Basketball Outlast Albertus, 82-72

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team soared to a 82-72 victory over the Albertus Magnus Falcons on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action..

Five different players scored in the double digits for the Rams with freshman Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) leading the pack with 17 points for the afternoon. Senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn) added 16 points for Suffolk. Junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) scored 13 points, while junior Illiana Qudari (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) both had 12 points for the afternoon. Anderson was 4-6 on the afternoon from the three-point land.

The Rams opened the contest scoring the game's first 12 points before freshman Aaliyah Bohannon Brannon (Bridgeport, Conn.) got the Falcons on the board coming off the bench five minutes into play. Albertus would manage to work their way back into the contest after falling behind early when junior Annie Sutlia (Bridgeport, Conn.) nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer of the first half to give the Falcons a 34-33 lead heading into the break.

Suffolk would open up the second half with a 15-5 run to regain a nine-point lead four minutes into the second frame as Ruys completed a three point play with a layup and free-throw.

Back to back layups by Campellone would space Suffolk out to a 15-point lead before freshman Anderson sunk one of her three three-pointers to push the Rams out to their largest lead of the contest, 65-47 midway through the half.

Senior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) lead the Falcons with 19 points for the afternoon and was 5-6 on the free throw line. Sutila would also score in the double digits for Albertus Magnus with a total of 18 points.

Suffolk held a slight edge in the contest on the glass, outrebounding the Falcons 44-40 in the game. The Rams were able to force 17 Falcons' turnovers which they cashed in to 26 points on the day.

The loss drops the Flacons to 3-11 overall.

Suffolk improves to a 6-3 mark on the season.

Saturday's contest was the first for both teams in GNAC play this season.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Tuesday evening with home contests. Albertus will host Anna Maria College at 7:00pm, while Suffolk welcomes Lasell College to the Regan Gymnasium for a 7:00pm matchup.
