Women's Basketball Fall Short on the Road, 62-61

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team were outlasted by the Framingham State University Rams, 62-61 in non-conference action on Thursday evening.

Senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) led all scorers with 23 points, including eight in the final 1:50 of regulation but Suffolk could not overcome a late 10-point deficit in the second half.

Suffolk would hold their largest lead of the contest seven minutes into the second half when sophomore Alessandra Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) nailed a three-pointer to make it a 38-33 game. From there, Framingham State would go on a 15-3 run over a four minute span to regain a 48-41 edge when freshman Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) connected on a pair of free-throws.

Junior Margo McCarthy (Southampton, Mass.) would get Framingham State their largest lead of the game when her layup with 3:22 made it a 60-50 score. Suffolk would not go quietly however as they were able to bring the game back to a one possesion contest as Ruys connected on a pair jumpers after junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) connected on a three-pointer.

Sophomore Kerry Coyne (North Attleboro, Mass.) would then connect on Framingham's last basket of the contest with thirty-three seconds remaining in regulation when her jumper made it a 62-57 contest.

Ruys would cut Framingham's lead to one point when she connected on a layup in the paint, and then made both of her free throw attempts on Suffolk's following offensive possesion, but Suffolk was unable to find the game-winning shot as both attempts from the field in the final three seconds fell short.

Ruys finished the night as the game's leading scorer with her 23 points, and was the leading rebounder in the contest with 10, to finish with the double-double.

Junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points, while Santini netted 16 points and also collect seven steals in the game for Suffolk.

The loss drops Suffolk to a 2-1 mark on the year, they'll be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Colby Sawyer College in their regular season opener beginning at 1:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
