Women's Basketball Continue Strong Season

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team rolled to a 65-39 victory over the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening.

Junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) led all scorers with 18 points, while senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) made history becoming the first player in program history to reach milestone feats in three categories as she pulled in 11 rebounds to bring her career total to 500 to go along. Vienneau has already reached the 1,000 point marker and 300 assist total during the 2012-13 season as she becomes just the fourth GNAC Women's Basketball player to reach all three.

Suffolk once again came right out of the gates with a strong start as they opened the game with a 16-0 run in the first seven minutes of the contest. Vienneau would start the game scoring six of Suffolk's first 16 points as she finished the first half with 11 points.

The Rams would hold a steady lead throughout the contest as they finished the first half with a 34-18 edge going into the break.

Suffolk would continue to push their spread throughout the second half and got their largest lead of the game at 27 points, 61-34 with four minutes remaining when Ruys scored two of her half's 10 points when she was fed down low by freshman Megan Murphy (South Windsor, Conn.).

Junior Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 11 points as she was their lone player to finish the game with double digits in scoring.

Johnson & Wales was able to spread their scoring throughout their team as nine players worked their way onto the score sheet on the evening.

Sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) had a career-high 18 rebounds in the game for Suffolk as she was dominant on the glass as the Rams held a 56-44 overall edge in boards during the game.

Vienneau finished the game with 15 points, highlighted by a 9-for-10 effort from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) netted 13 points to go along with three steals.

The win improves Suffolk to a 16-5 overall record on the year as they are winners of nine of their last 10 contests. They improve to an 8-1 mark in GNAC play.

Johnson & Wales falls to 9-11 overall on the season and pull even with a 4-4 GNAC record.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday evening. Johnson & Wales will host Anna Maria College in GNAC action beginning at 7:00pm. Suffolk will travel to UMass-Boston for a non-conference tilt starting at 5:30pm.
