Women's Basketball Take Thursday Afternoon Matinee

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team rolled to a 56-47 victory over the Worcester State University Lancers on Thursday afternoon led by a 15-point performance by junior Jennifery Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.).

The win improves the Rams to an 8-4 mark, who now head into Saturday to open up their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a 1:00pm matchup against the St. Joseph University Blue Jays.

Senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) paced the Rams with a dozen points in the first half en route to a 14-point game for Suffolk as the visitors took a 30-20 lead at halftime. Vienneau was 4-for-6 from the field connecting on a pair of three-pointers to jumpstart the Suffolk offense in the opening twenty minutes of play.

The Rams would hold a steady lead throughout the second period of action with sophomore Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) pacing them as she scored all eight of her points in the half going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

After the Lancers missed on consecutive three-point attempts, Ruys would connect down low for a lay-up at the 4:17 mark to put the Rams up 51-41. Senior Dominique Demar (Colchester, Conn.) put Suffolk up 56-45 in the final minute of the contest with two of her game's eight points to seal the victory.

Julie Frankian led all scorers in the contest as she netted 18 points for Worcester State who now fall to 6-9 on the year. The Lancers' Meaghan O'Keefe led all rebounders with 11 despite Suffolk holding an overall advantage in the contest on the glass at 36-30.

Suffolk was able to force 22 Lancers' turnovers in the contest as sophomore Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) led the way with five steals for the Rams. Suffolk was able to convert those turnovers into 20 points in the contest.

Quadri finished the game with eight boards and eight points, while Vienneau recorded seven rebounds to go along with her 14 points and team-high three assists.
