Endicott Halts Women's Basketball Five-Game Win Streak

The Endicott College Gulls (6-1 overall) halted the Suffolk University Women's Basketball team's five-game winning streak with a 58-54 victory over the Rams on Saturday afternoon at the Regan Gymnasium.

Junior Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half to pace a Gulls' offense that shot 48.9-percent as a team (14-for-29) in the final twenty minutes for the win.

Junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) led all scorers as she finished the game with 22 points for Suffolk, who end the first half of their season with a 7-3 overall record.

After trailing 24-21 at the break, the Gulls would go on a 13-2 run over a four-minute span to take a 39-31 lead at the 13:06 mark in the second half. Junior Jennifer White (Lisbon, N.H.) would hit a pair of three-pointers in that span, while Crough added a pair of jumpers for the Gulls.

Suffolk would answer however with a 12-2 run over their own to retake the lead at 49-48 when senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) hit a pull-up jumper with 3:29 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Kayleen Whall (Foxboro, Mass.) put the Gulls up for good though a minute later as she connected on a field goal and was fouled on the play. Whall would make the bonus shot to put Endicott back up 51-49 with 2:38 left in the contest.

White would tack on her third three-pointer of the half nearly ninety seconds later for a five-point lead, before senior Jen McBrien (Medfield, Mass.) sealed the victory with a pair of free-throws in the waning seconds.

White finished the game with 13 points, with nine of them coming in the second half, all from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) scored 18 points for the Rams, while Vienneau led all rebounders with 11 in the contest while adding six points and a game-high five assists.

The 22 points in the contest for Ruys are a season-high.

Endicott, winners of six of their first seven to start the season, will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Emmanuel College for a non-conference matchup with the Saints at 5:30pm before their winter. Suffolk will be idle until Tuesday, January 8, 2013 when they host Middlebury College at 6:00pm.
