Ruys, Vienneau Lead Women's Basketball to Road Victory

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team extended their winning streak to four games with a 60-58 victory on the road against the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers on Tuesday evening.

Senior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) had a team-high 21 points, while junior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored 17 points and had a key defensive block at the end for Suffolk who improve to 6-2 to start the season.

Ruys led the Rams with 11 first half points as Suffolk took a 30-23 lead heading into halftime.

Senior Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) would hit a three-point shot at the 4:15 mark in the second half, before a Ruys layup put the Rams up by eleven points, 58-47 with three and a half minutes remaining.

Colby-Sawyer would not go quietly as senior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) scored five of her 10 second half points in a thirty second span to bring the game back to a two possession contest.

After another Chargers field goal, Vienneau made it a 60-54 game with forty seconds remaining as part of her 12-point second half.

Senior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) made things interesting however as she made one of two free-throws and later sunk a layup and added another free-throw following a Rams' foul to make it a two-point contest with :21 on the clock.

The Rams missed an opportunity to convert free-throws when they were sent to the line by the Chargers, but Ruys had the big block with two seconds to negate the chance for the tie.

Bullett led all scorers with 22 points on the evening. She became the 13th player in Colby-Sawyer program history to reach 1,000 career points as she reached the milestone in the first half.

Vienneau nearly missed a triple-double for the second time in a week. She finished with seven rebounds and seven assists along with her 21 points.

Sophomore Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) had a team-high 13 rebounds as Suffolk had a 46-36 advantage on the glass.

The Rams will be back in action on Thursday evening as they host Nichols College at the Regan Gymnasium at 8:00pm.
