Women's Basketball Soar Past Falcons

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (13-5, 6-1 GNAC) used a large second half to push past the Albertus Magnus College Falcons (10-8, 3-4 GNAC) by a 70-63 score on Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Senior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) and sophomore Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) each scored 13 points in the second half for the Rams to guide them to their fifth consecutive win in GNAC play as they improve to a 13-5 overall mark on the season. Junior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) led all scorers in the game as she tied her season-high scoring 20 points in the contest.

Garon was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in the second half for the Rams, including connecting on six attempts in a row over a two and a half minute span as the Rams were 20-for-21 as a team from the line in the second half.

Garon finished the game recording her first double-double of the season as she finished with 16 points and led all rebounders with 10 boards.

Sophomore Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) finished the game with 18 points for the Falcons, while sophomore Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded 17. Senior Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) had a team-high eight rebounds while chipping in with 15 points.

The Falcons held the biggest lead for either side as they jumped out to an 11-point lead at 27-16 thirteen minutes into the contest. Suffolk would manage to close the gap to four as they went into the break trailing 30-26.

The Rams would eventually tie the game seven minutes into the second half as Ruys scored two of her 15 points in the contest and Suffolk would not look back. They managed to force 13 Falcons' turnovers in the half and took advantage of the 13 personal fouls called as they shot 96-percent from the line over the final twenty minutes of play.

Senior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Rams as she finished as the fourth player in the game for Suffolk to reach double digits scoring 11 points in the contests.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Saturday afternoon. Albertus Magnus will travel to Pine Manor College for a 1:00pm tipoff with the Gators. Suffolk will head north to take on the Monks of St. Joseph's College start time.
