Garon Scores a Career High In Rams Win

Senior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Suffolk University Women's Basketball team to a 54-41 victory over the Simmons College Sharks on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The win moves the Rams to an 11-5 overall record on the season while they pick up their fourth victory in five conference games this year.

Trailing 27-21 at the half the Sharks were able to even the game four minutes into the second half on a pair of free throws by junior Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.).

Garon answered with a made three-point shot thirteen seconds later to give the Rams the lead at 32-29.

Senior Jessica Thomas (Sandwich, Mass.) evened the game again for the Sharks from the free-throw line a minute later, but Garon would put the Rams ahead at the 14:25 mark with a layup and score again as this time Suffolk would not relent on their lead.

Suffolk was able to extend their lead to double digits at the 9:34 mark as senior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) scored two of her nine points in the contest to make it a 42-32 game.

Garon finished the game as both the leading scorer (19 points) and rebounder with nine. She also collected four steals in the game as the Suffolk defense forced 18 turnovers in the contest while limiting the Sharks to only 14 field goals made in the contest as a team.

Suffolk will be back in GNAC action on Saturday afternoon as they host Norwich University at 1:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
