Women's Basketball Rolls Past Mound Ida, 65-55


The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (9-5, 2-1 GNAC) used a 19-point performance by sophomore Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) to cruise to a 65-55 victory over the Mound Ida College Mustangs (8-6, 2-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Each of the Rams' starting five finished the game in double-digits in scoring as the Rams took a 17-point lead into halftime as Suffolk shot 60-percent as a team in the game's opening 20 minutes.

The win improves the Rams to a 9-5 overall mark on the season and is their second win in three league games this season while the Mustangs fall to 8-6 with a matching conference record.

Senior Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) scored a dozen, while senior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) and junior Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) each had 11 points. Freshman Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) rounded things out with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field for the Rams.

Quadri, Black and freshman Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) each collected seven rebounds in the game as the Rams held a 45-35 edge on the glass in the contest.

Suffolk will be back in action on Monday afternoon as they host Lasell College in GNAC action at the Regan Gymnasium at 1:00pm.
