The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (15-9, 9-2 GNAC) held on for an 82-78 victory at Norwich University on Tuesday evening.

The win snaps a three-game skid by the Rams and moves them into sole possesion of second place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings in the final week of the regular season. With the loss the Cadets fall to 7-4 in GNAC play and 15-8 overall on the season.

Freshman Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) scored a season-high 23 points in the win, notching her first career double-double as she also collected 11 rebounds.

The Rams saw a 12-point lead nearly get away in the final five and a half minutes of play as the Cadets put together a 12-3 run over four minutes as senior Karissa Doyon (Beecher Falls, Vt.) capped a three-point play with a free throw following a layup down low to make it 68-66 in favor of Suffolk with 1:55 to go in regulation.

Ruys would go to the line connecting on both of her free throws to put the Rams back up by four but a pair of free throws by senior Megan Gingras (Williamstown, Vt.) would make it a one possesion game again.

Norwich would have a chance to tie the game after a missed layup by Doyon with thiry seconds remaining was grabbed by senior Laurel McWilliams (Swanton, Vt.) resetting the shot clock and giving the Cadets the ball as time expired, but a costly foul would turn the ball back over to the hands of Suffolk.

The Rams would take advantage letting time expire before sophomore Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) went to the line connecting on both of her free-throws to seal the victory for Suffolk with four seconds remaining.

Vienneau finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Rams.

Suffolk held the lead for the majority of the contest and never relinquished their lead in the second half after going into halftime with a 37-30 lead.

The 12-point lead was the largest spread the Rams held in the contest as junior Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) hit one of two free throws. Black finished the game with seven points, and had three steals.

McWilliams was the leading scorer in the contest as she had 27 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field. Senior Christina McDaniels (Concord, N.H.) posted a double-double for the Cadets as she led all rebounders with 14 and also chipped in 14 points. Doyon had 15 points as well for the Cadets.

Suffolk shot 44.3 percent as a team from the field in the game.

The Rams will close out the regular season on Saturday as they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on the Albertus Magnus Falcons at 1:00pm.
