Vienneau, Rams Shoot Past Beacons, 62-34

Boston, Mass. -  The Suffolk University Rams (13-9) rolled to their sixth victory in their past seven games topping the UMass-Boston Beacons (4-18), 62-34 at the Regan Gymnasium on Thursday evening. Freshman Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) continued her hot hand scoring 17 points to along with five rebounds and six assists for the Rams.

Suffolk got out of the gates hot as they connected on four straight three-point field goals, three off the hand of Vienneau, as the Rams jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Vienneau finished the first half with 14 points, going 5-for-5 from the field, including making all four shots she attempted from beyond the arc. The Rams were 14-for-30 as a team from the field in the first half, including 7-for-15 from three-point land as they took a 37-14 lead into the break.

Senior Caroline Ashe (West Roxbury, Mass.) finished with a team-high 12 points for the Beacons going 5-for-7 from the field. Freshman Bethany Rossoll (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had seven points and seven rebounds for the Beacons.

Suffolk was able to pressure the Beacons into Beacons into mistakes for most of the night, forcing 24 UMass-Boston turnovers. Suffolk had 16 steals in the game, including six from sophomore Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.). Garon also scored nine points in the game and picked up seven boards. Senior Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, Me.) finished the game with nine points and seven rebounds as well.

The Rams held the slight edge in rebounds in the game 41-38.

The Beacons are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Plymouth State in Little East Conference (LEC) action. The Rams will be back on the court on Saturday as they travel across the Boston Common to take on Emerson College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at noon.
