Women's Basketball Tops Lesley, 76-60

Boston, Mass. -- Suffolk University (4-3 overall) topped the Lesley University Lynx (0-3 overall), 76-60 Saturday afternoon at the Regan Gymnasium as senior Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, Me.) had a career  day scoring 20 points to along with 8 rebounds for the Rams.

The Rams blew the game open in the second half outscoring the Lynx, 41-24. Lesley managed to jump out to a 19-3 lead in the game's first eight minutes, taking advantage of several turnovers. Suffolk would manage to cut the margin down to six points in the first half but back to back three pointers by junior Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, N.Y) would push the spread back to 11. The Rams managed to close the gap by one heading into the half as Thompson put in 11 in the half going 4-for-6 from the field off the bench. Sophomore Julianne Conrad (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was 3-for-8  from the field adding eight points as the Rams overcame the deficit.

Suffolk came out quick in the second half taking the lead for good when senior Mara Dreiser (Port Ewen, NY) hit a jumped :48 seconds in for a 37-36 edge. Sophomore Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) went 4-for-5 in the second half as she scored eight points for Suffolk. Freshman Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) scored nine of her 12 points in the second half, while Thompson also had nine. Freshman Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem N.H.) had eight of her game-high 10 rebounds in the second half as well.

Weschler led all scorers with 23 points. Junior Brianne Caira (Pelham, N.H.) had 10 points along with seven rebounds for the Lynx, while senior Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) led the team with eight rebounds.

Lesley will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel over to Newton to take on the Lasell College Lasers at 6:00pm. The Rams are back on the court Tuesday evening as they host Regis College at 7:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
