Women's Basketball Takes Down Mount Ida, 77-60

Newton, Mass. - The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team (8-8 overall, 3-2 GNAC) were led by their two freshman guards to take down the Mount Ida College Mustangs (8-11 overall, 1-5 GNAC)by a score of 77-60 on the road Thursday evening.

The Rams now move to a 3-2 record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this season.

Freshman Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) scored a season-high 19 points to lead the Rams. Vienneau finished the game 5-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and was also 7-for-8 from the free throw line. She also had a team-high six assists. Most of her work was done in the first half as she led the team with 15 points at the break.

 Freshman Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) posted her first career double-double scoring 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds and also had a team-high four steals.

Sophomore Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) continued her strong play as she posted double digits in points for the fifth consecutive game netting 16 for the Rams.  Senior Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, Me.) also had 11 points for Suffolk.

The game went back and forth in the first half as there were nine different lead changes, but the Rams were able to put the game away as they went on a 25-6 run in the middle of the second half to seal the Mustangs' fate. Suffolk was led by Thompson and Black who combined for 21 points in the game's second period. The Rams shot 48-percent from the field in the second half as they managed to outscore Mount Ida, 40-29.

Sophomore Kristina Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) also chipped in with nine points, while sophomore Mary Garon (Auburn, N.H.) added seven points as well.

The Rams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host Rivier College beginning at 2:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
