Meghan Black Named 3rd Team All-Conference Selection by the GNAC

Boston, Mass. - Suffolk University Women's basketball sophomore Meghan Black (Roslindale, Mass.) was a third-team selection to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) team as voted by the league's coaches. Black finished the season leading the Rams in points per game with a 10.2 ppg average and led the Rams with 265 points scored on the season.

Black played a pivotal part in the Rams' late season turnaround, including hitting the game deciding basket in a 67-65 win over Emerson College on February 13. Black finished the season posting three double-doubles and had a career-high 22 points on January 18 in a 72-56 Suffolk victory over St. Joseph (Conn.). Black reached double digits in points in 11 of Suffolk's 26 games this season.

"Meghan's recognition by the GNAC is a direct result of her hardwork and effort throughout the season. She provided our team with leadership both on and off the court and was one of our most consistent players throughout the season,' said Suffolk Head Coach Ed Leyden.

Black was also strong defensively for the Rams as she was ranked eighth in the league in steals with 2.2 per game.

Senior Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, Me.) also earned recognition by the GNAC being named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Thompson finished the season averaging 9.3 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game for Suffolk. She was ranked 16th among rebounders in the GNAC and was 6th among shooters from the free-throw line with a .792 free-throw percentage. Thompson posted four double-doubles on the season for the Rams.

The Rams finished the season with a 14-12 overall record, and finished in sixth place in the GNAC league standings with a 7-5 conference record. The Rams fell to the Albertus Magnus Falcons, 82-81 in Tuesday's GNAC Conference Quarterfinals.
