Suffolk Women's Basketball win home opener

The Suffolk University Women’s Basketball team followed up a season opening victory on Saturday over Gordon College with a 90-35 rout of UMass-Dartmouth at Suffolk’s Regan Gymnasium in Boston, Ma Sunday afternoon.

Senior forward Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, MA) earned a double-double, netting a game-high 21 points and grabbing a game-high ten rebounds. Freshman Julianne Conrad (West Bridgewater, Ma) added 17 points and seven rebounds. Mary Garon (Auburn, NH) and Laura Thompson (Kennebunk, ME) each added ten points and combined for nine rebounds.

The Rams outscored the Corsairs 32-0 during a 12 minute span that made up the final four minutes of the first half and the first eight minutes of the second. Suffolk ended the first half on an 8-0 run to take a convincing 39-22 lead. Conrad had four points during the run. Kristina Hayner (Bedford, N.H.) scored four of her seven points on the day during that run.

Suffolk continued its dominant play in the second half outscoring the Corsairs 51-13 and jumping out to a 63-22 lead, thanks to a 24-0 run in the first 8:45. Conrad hit three 3-pointers in the first 4:30 of the half before she was lifted from the game. Tracey capped off the run with another seven points.

Suffolk led by 56 points twice in the final minute before finishing with the 55 point victory.

The Rams vicious defense held UMass-Dartmouth to an abysmal 20.4% shooting and forced the Corsairs into 29 turnovers. Suffolk also held UMD to 13.3% shooting from beyond the arc. The Rams finished the contest shooting 50.7% from the field and 42.9% from three point land.

Suffolk takes on Salve Regina Tuesday at 7pm as they look to improve to 3-0.
