Wentworth Walks Off Softball in Game 1, 3-2

BOSTON – Down one going into the sixth, Suffolk softball scored one run in the sixth and seventh but could not hold off a walk-off by Wentworth to suffer a 3-2 game one setback in the Conference of New England twinbill at Carr Diamond.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Wentworth 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-16, 8-6 CNE) | Wentworth (17-18, 6-7 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A fielding error by Suffolk's first baseman Sara Butera when Jess Rowe put the ball in play allowed the bottom of fourth frame to keep the inning going. Kelsey Medalia capitalized for WIT as she roped a triple to right field that broke the scoreless game open and put the Rams in a 1-0 hole.

The Rams leveled the playing field in the top of the sixth. Ava Brandow barreled a one-out double to right and scored behind Julia Mills; single up the middle to make it 1-all.

In the seventh, Suffolk snuck in front thanks to a one-run single by Lily Gustafson. A walk by Avery Carvalho and base hit up the middle off Catherine Carignan's bat put runners on first and second before Gustafson laced a single to right to give the Rams a 2-1 edge.

Wentworth quickly put all the ducks in the pond with no outs thanks to back-to-back base hits and a fielder's choice. Katelin Howe's single through the right side brought in the tying run, before an error on a force out play at home by Suffolk's catcher Jolie Quintana allowed the Leopards to lock up the victory.
