BOSTON – Suffolk's softball's bats never got going and Roger Williams used its early lead to hand the Rams a 4-0 Conference of New England (CNE) setback at Carr Diamond on the campus of Wentworth Friday afternoon.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Roger Williams 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-13, 5-3 CNE) | Roger Williams (18-9, 9-2 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Three hits and one Rams error allowed the Hawks to fly out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Suffolk had chances in the next two innings to get on the board but stranded one in the first and two in the second to remain in a two-run hole.
That margin extended to three in in the top of the third on a passed ball.
Catherine Carignan led off the home half of the third with a single up the middle and took second on a sac bunt by Lily Gustafson, but was kept there as the next two batters went down in order.
Roger Williams lengthened the lead to four with one run in the fourth behind two base hits and one sac.
The Rams defense helped the Hawks the rest of the way, however, Suffolk's offense was unable to muster another base runner to take the 4-0 loss.
