Gettysburg Gets by Softball, 3-1

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Suffolk softball could not hang onto its early edge as a fifth-inning three-run rally by Gettysburg helped the Bullets take down the Rams, 3-1, Thursday afternoon at the DiamondPlex at The Spring Games.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Gettysburg 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-7) | Gettysburg (10-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk scored one run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Ava Brandow and Avery Carvalho coupled back-to-back singles together and both runners moved over on a passed ball. One out later, Delaney Doidge's unassisted ground out to first brought in Brandow to open the scoring.

Ella Turnbull commanded the circle and took a no-hitter into the fifth. Megan Cook made a handful of defensive switches and brought Cynthia Rucinski in to twirl. The Bullets broke up the no-no with a walk and a single, before blue-and-gold fielding hiccups allowed three runs to come in and put the Rams in a 3-1 hole.

Turnbull returned to her spot on the rubber and kept the damage there, but Suffolk's offense was limited to just onebase runner the rest of the way to take the setback.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Cynthia Rucinski took the loss. She gave up thre runs, two earned, on two hits and one walk in 0.1 inning of relief.
