WINTER HAVEN, Fla.– Suffolk softball's bats were quiet until the fourth inning, while Northwestern struck early and often en route to a 12-0 Rams' setback Tuesday afternoon at the DiamondPlex at The Spring Games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern tacked on one run in the first and eight in the second to turn on the mercy rule.  

The Eagles continued to soar with one in the third and two more in the fourth to go up a dozen.  

Julia Mills broke-up the no-hitter with a single and Avery Carvalho followed with a base hit of her own. The bule-and-gold was unable to capitalize on its base runners though and a zero remained on its side of the board.  

Both sides went scoreless in the fifth for the 12-0 final.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Ashlyn Conley (1.2 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K), Lily Newhall (1.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB), Julia Newcomb (0.1 IP, 1 R, 4 BB, 1 K) and Ella Turnbull (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K) all saw time in the circle. 
  • Ireland Strubbe shoved a two-hit, one-walk, seven-strikeout, 5.0-inning shutout.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Mills and Carvalho were responsible for Suffolk's hits with one apiece. 
  • Delaney Doidge worded the Rams' lone walk of the day.

  • Suffolk and Northwestern met for the first time

Suffolk is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12 against Wittenberg (9:00 a.m.) and Bowdoin (11:15 a.m.).
