BEVERLY, Mass. – Catherine Carignan of the Suffolk softball team has been named Conference of New England (CNE) Player of the Week after a standout showing over the first six games of the season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Carignan has assembled a .706/.762/.824 slash line with 12 hits including two doubles to go along with six runs scored, four walks, one RBI and six stolen bases. She tops the Rams in every statistical category thus far to lead the blue-and-gold to a .500 (3-3) start.
The centerfield has hit safely in the half dozen games with multi-hit performances four times including a pair of three-hit outings, the opener versus Alvernia March 7 and a 6-2 triumph over Thomas Maine. In that victory over the Terriers, she barreled two doubles, which tie a career-best for the junior, and brought in one run. The Litchfield, New Hampshire product swiped a career-high three bases over a three-game span starting against Simmons and ending against Thomas.
The weekly award is the second of Carignan's career and marks the first time Suffolk had a player scoop up a conference weekly accolade since Lily Newhall was tabbed the league's co-pitcher of the week April 17, 2024. It is the first conference player of the week since Becky Zellin secured the accolade March 26, 2024.
Carignan and the Rams return to action at The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida, tomorrow, Monday, March 11 against Ohio Christian (10:00 a.m.) and Northwestern (Minn.) (12:15 p.m.).
