WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Suffolk softball wrapped up its second day at The Spring Games with its second victory of the season, a 6-2 triumph over Thomas, Saturday afternoon at the DiamondPlex. Catherine Carignan was powerful at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort that featured two doubles and Lily Newhall twirled a complete-game effort in the circle.

RECORDS: Suffolk (2-2) | Thomas (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk started with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A walk by Newhall and a single up the middle off Julia Mills' bat put two ducks in the pond for Carignan, who barreled a base hit to center to bring the first run of the day in.

In their second turn at the dish, Suffolk stretched its advantage to four. Delaney Doidge and Lily Gustafson sandwiched a double and walk around two outs. Newhall's single to right ignited the two-out rally that was capped off by a two-run base hit by Mills to right field that made it a 4-0 Suffolk score through 1.5 innings.

Thomas sliced the gap in half in the bottom the third behind three runs and a Rams' error.

More two-out scoring came for the blue-and-gold in the fifth. Carignan led off the frame with a two-bagger to left and swiped third after two outs. Ava Brandow did a job and plated Carignan with a single to left to push the margin to three, 5-2.

Two innings later, Mills drew a base on balls and rocketed to third on Carignan's second double of the day. Abby Barnaby's fly out to right brought in Mills to extend the Rams' cushion to four, 6-2.

The Terriers were unable to rally around its one-out single in the home half of the seventh and Suffolk locked up its second win in as many games.
