BOSTON – An early led by the Beacons proved to be the difference as Suffolk softball could not compile a comeback to take down UMass Boston and the Rams fell, 11-2 in six innings Thursday at the UMB Softball Field.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk (2) | UMass Boston (11)
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-10 | UMass Boston (11-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Boston started out hot with back-to-back walks followed by three extra-base hits, two doubles and one homer, to take a five-run lead early.
Suffolk got one back in the bottom of the first inning when Ava Brandow used a productive ground out to second to plate Lily O'Neil, who worked a base on balls.
After a scoreless second, the Beacons extended their edge to seven and turned on the mercy-rule an inning later, 9-1.
The Rams Managed to eliminate the run-rule in the home half of the fourth. Ella Turnbull doubled to right to lead things off, advanced to third on a passed ball and coasted in thanks to Ashlyn Conley's single to right field.
In the sixth, UMB added two more runs to stretch the gap to nine, 11-2, and Suffolk stranded a pair of runners in the bottom of the sixth to keep the score still.
