Zulla Picks Up CCC Player of the Week

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk softball's senior catch Ashley Zulla collected CCC Player of the Week honors after leading the Rams to a 4-2 record over a six-game stretch.

Zulla, who was also a nominee for Suffolk's Ram of the Week, contributed at least one hit in every outing over the week with multiple knocks in all, but one. She finished with 13 hits including three bombs and one double on an impressive slash line of .520/.520/.920. Run wise, she brought in seven and scored just as many herself.

The Columbus, New Jersey product started the week on a high as her bat proved to be the hero with an extra-inning, walk-off two-RBI double that pushed the Rams over Endicott, 11-10, Wednesday night. In that mid-week, two-game series with the Gulls, she went 5-for-9 with one double and homer, respectively, for four RBI and a pair of runs scored.

From there, Suffolk transitioned to home-and-home series with Wentworth. In the Saturday, CCC sweep of the Leopards, Zulla provided three hits in eight chances and two runs scored. A day later in Eastie, the lefty went 5-for-8 with three RBI and runs scored. She knocked a ball over the fence in both battles with WIT on Sunday, which marks the second time this season and fifth in time in her collegiate career she has done so.

Zulla is the second Ram to be recognized by the CCC this season behind Kennedy Reyes Pitcher of the Week nod March 29. The CCC Player of the Week pick is the first for Zulla and Suffolk softball with the blue-and-gold in its inaugural season in the conference. The weekly accolade is the second for Zulla, who took home GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week March 27, 2017. She is the first Ram to garner the best player over a seven day stretch by a league office since Payton Sylvester shared the recognition April 2, 2018.

Zulla and the Rams are scheduled to be back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 13 at Wentworth. Game one has a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
