Mount Union Rolls Softball, 11-6

CLERMONT, Fla. – Suffolk softball slipped into an early deficit, rallied late, but could not complete the comeback as Mount Union downed the Rams, 11-6, Sunday morning at Hancock Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 6 | Mount Union 11
RECORDS: Suffolk (0-3) | Mount Union (3-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk dug itself in an 11-1 hole as Mount Union put runs on the boards in the first five innings. A handful of line-up and pitching changes later and the mercy rule looming, the Rams started a comeback.

The scoring started thanks to three Raiders error that let two runners come in. With Leina Belog on third, Savannah Scripter wrote her first collegiate hit in the scorebook with a single up the middle to make it an 11-4 ball game after five innings.

Hanna Cash held Mount Union scoreless for the first time in the top of the sixth and the blue-and-gold kept its offensive output going in the home half of the inning. This time walks and base hits paid off for the Rams as Brooke Cloak brought two runs in with a one-bagger up the middle. After a pitching change for the Raiders and the second out of the frame, Belog kept the inning going with a base on balls. Scripter sauntered to the plate with all the ducks in the pond and had the crowd stand up as she sent a shot out to centerfield. The rookie's long ball fell just short and landed in Grace Heath's glove and the score stood at 11-6 through six.

Neither side was able to break through in the seventh and the score stayed in favor of the Raiders.
