Extra-Base Hits Power Softball Past Albertus Magnus, 7-2, in Game 2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Suffolk softball used extra-base hits to rally and take down Albertus Magnus, 7-2, in the nightcap of a GNAC double feature Tuesday night at the Shea Softball Complex.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 7 | Albertus Magnus 2
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-14, 7-3 GNAC) | Albertus Magnus (14-16, 3-7 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Albertus Magnus knocked a two-out, solo shot to grab a 1-0 edge in the top of the first before the Rams responded in the bottom of the inning with a dinger of their own. With runners on second and third, Ashley Zulla barreled a bomb to right field to give Suffolk a 3-1 lead.

The Falcons' second extra-base of the game diced the Rams' advantage to one in the second stanza and the 3-2 score stood for the next three innings.

Extra-base hits played a factor once again for the blue-and-gold in the bottom of the sixth. With one down and Samantha Jacques on first after capitalizing on a Falcons' error, Hailey Cockroft rocked a triple to right center to start a Suffolk scoring stretch. The second Albertus Magnus' miscue of the inning allowed Cockroft to come in and double the Rams' advantage. From there, Grace Boehler and Jaclyn Flint each collected one RBI on a base hit to gain a 7-2 cushion after six complete innings.

Kennedy Reyes locked up the win on the rubber as the freshman retired the side in the seventh.
