Marquis Named GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – For the second time in as many weeks the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week hails from Suffolk softball as Evelyn Marquis picks up the nod the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Marquis was a crucial ingredient to Suffolk's best start since 2005 and most successful Spring Training trips in recent history as Marquis and the Rams put together a 7-3 record at the Gene Cusic Classic last week.

Marquis, a native of Oxford, Massachusetts, posted at least one hit in all, but one of her seven appearances in Ft. Myers, Florida last week. In total, she finished 11-for-18 (.611) with an identical slugging percentage of .611. Her bat was explosive all week to drive in four runs. Marquis came in to score six times through the seven games, as Suffolk topped Wooster, Augsburg, Minnesotra Morris and Knox.

The Rookie of the Week honor for Marquis is the first weekly award of the freshman's career and second weekly nod this season. Last week, Jill Pulek received the recognition.

Suffolk returns to action Thursday, March 24 when it travels to Curry for a twinbill, before opening its home slate Saturday, March 26 with a doubleheader against Salem State.
