Delaney Sylvester Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

Freshman Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) was named a Co-Rookie of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for Softball on Monday.

Sylvester hit at a .476 (10-for-21) clip on the week with a .478 on-base percentage and .810 slugging percentage. She drove in nine runs and also scored six as Suffolk went 5-1 on the week.

Sylvester went 4-for-7 with four runs scored in a non-league doubleheader on Monday against Salem state University. She would go 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run scored in Suffolk 11-7 victory over the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday and 2-for-4 with three RBI in Sunday's 9-4 victory over Simmons College.

She is currently tops in the GNAC in RBI with 28 and is second in the league in batting average at .468 (37-for-79). She is also fifth among all sluggers at a .708 slugging percentage which includes six doubles, three triples and two home runs on the season.

Sylvester is the third first year player for Suffolk throw six weeks of play this season to earn Rookie of the Week honors by the GNAC. Fellow classmates Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Devlin Frost (Tewksbury, Mass.) have also earned weekly honors.

Suffolk currently sits atop the GNAC with a 12-2 record in conference play. They had an 11-game win streak snapped on Sunday with a 2-1 setback to Simmons College but are currently 18-6 on the year. Suffolk will head into the final week of the 2015 regular season. They will continue their postponed doubleheader with Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, before taking on Norwich on Thursday, Emmanuel on Friday and St. Joseph's College on Saturday.
