Rams Shutout Blue Jays 2-0

The Suffolk University Softball team took on the University of St. Joseph Blue Jays in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff action on Friday afternoon. The Rams flew past the Blue Jays in a 2-0 win to advance their second game of the afternoon against St. Joseph's Maine at 4:00pm.

Both teams were holding strong on the defensive end until the Rams finally broke though at the top of the third taking advantage of a few Blue Jay errors.

Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) started it off to get on the bags when she was walked. Young then proceeded to steal second base. Senior Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.) singled through the left side and Young made it to third. With the Rams on the corners Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) stepped up to bat and reached on the fielder's choice to plate Young for the Rams' first score on the afternoon. McAndrews advanced to second on a Blue Jays second base error. Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) singled to center field and McAndrews advanced to third. Chasse advanced to second on an error by the Blue Jays' catcher and McAndrews was able to cross home plate for an insurance run and a 2-0 advantage over the St. Joseph.

Pitching for both teams kept the scoring to a minimum. Chasse had eight strikeouts and allowed only three hits on the afternoon. The Blue Jays' pitcher Patti Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn.) was equally as effective on the mound with seven strikeouts and allowing five hits.
