Rams Fall to Bluejays

The Suffolk University Softball team hosted the University of St. Joseph Connecticut Bluejays this evening in a double header Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match up. The Rams dropped both games with a 4-2 loss in the first game and a 5-2 loss in the second.

This loss drops the Rams to a 4-10 record overall and 0-1 in GNAC play. The Bluejays improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Game 1

Both teams were slow to start this evening. The Bluejays were the first to get on the board. At the top of the third with two outs when sophomore Patti Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn.) singled to first and was able to advance on the throw to bring in an RBI for the first score of the game. The Rams were able to hold the Bluejays to one score in the inning when junior Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) retired their last batter.

The top of the fifth showed the most action for the Bluejays. Sciglimpaglia doubled to right center to bring in two RBI to put the score at 3-0. Senior Ashley Gall (Stafford Springs, Conn.) singled through the left side and brought Sciglimpaglia home for a 4-0 score to round out the inning.

The Rams defense proved to be strong through the last two innings keeping the Bluejays scoreless. In the bottom of the seventh the Rams offense rallied. Sophomore Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) doubled and brought in two RBI for the Rams to put the score at 4-2.

Game 2

Junior Colleen Escedy (Ashford, Conn.) doubled and brought in two RBI to put the Bluejays up 2-0 in the second inning.

Suffolk defense proved strong at the top of the third inning and went three and out with a strong performance from freshman Lindsay Pagano (Wyckoff, N.J.) at first base.

In the fourth freshman Ashley Tucker (Middletown, Conn.) got the only homerun of the evening batting in two RBI to put the Bluejays up 4-0. Sophomore Mary Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn) singled through the right side for an RBI to put St. Joseph's up 5-0 at the top of the fifth.

For the second time this evening the Rams rallied in the seventh to put two on the board. Senior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) singled to bring in two RBI to put the Rams at a 5-2 disadvantage on the evening.

The Rams will host St. Joseph's Maine in GNAC action on Saturday in the Coaches vs. Cancer games at 11:00 am and 1:00pm. The Bluejays will be back in conference action on Sunday hosting Albertus Magnus in a double header at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
